I spent my teens on the Jersey Shore, absolutely worshiping the sun. When I moved to Southern California in my twenties, I continued my devotion to the sun, relishing in 300+ days of 70-degree sun. I remember my mother and my sister always warning me that all of this sun worshiping would come back to haunt me in my thirties and my resounding response was always, “yeah, sure. That won’t happen to me. I’m invincible.”
I used to think that being tan meant that I was healthy, that I had an amazing summer vacation, and lots of stories. As I grew up, matured, and developed into my late 20’s, I started to see the effects of the sun and I did not like it. While I might have memories from scuba diving in the Maldives, frolicking along the beaches of the Amalfi Coast, and muscles from trekking the mountains of Machu Picchu, I also had the sun damage to prove it. As I neared age thirty, I thought to myself, “are these the freckles and the skin discoloration that my mother and my sister always warned me about?” (PS – why do they always have to be right?)
Growing Up
As I continued to mature, I understood the importance of sunscreen (better late than never!). Now, at a young 31, I’m arming myself with sun protection for my around the world travels. I now understand the importance of protecting my skin and proactively defending it from future damage. That doesn’t mean that I’m going to stop traveling, stop trekking, or stop adventuring outside. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. This summer, I’m bringing Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen with me on my travels to Indonesia. It has a non-chemical, mineral base, which is perfect for my sensitive skin. I need to be very careful with what I put on my skin and Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen is chemical-free, Paraben-free, fragrance-free, and completely gentle on my entire body.
Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen was born in Australia, a country where skin cancer is one of the leading killers. Because of this, Australia has developed some of the most demanding sunscreen standards in the world and I am 100% following suit.
Why Mineral?
While chemical sunscreens wait until the sun is absorbed into your skin, mineral sunscreens reflect the rays of the sun before they enter the body. Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen is also mineral-based, which means it’s cleaner, safer, and provides better protection. One of my favorite parts about Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen is that the bottle turns blue in the presence of UV rays, which is a constant reminder for me to protect myself wherever I am in the world.
