Istanbul is one of the most enchanting cities in the world. But with so many museums and activities, it’s hard to figure out the most important places in Istanbul. We put together the absolute best things to do in Istanbul in our “Top 5 Things to do in Istanbul.” Roam on!
Istanbul – Safety and Tips
Note: Two weeks prior to us leaving for Istanbul there were two shooting attacks on the US embassy and a bombing of a synagogue. These issues gave us great concern and we contemplated canceling this part of our trip. Fortunately, we were already in Bodrum, Turkey so we spoke with some of the locals about the recent events. All of them said that Istanbul was safe. One even had her daughter living there and she said she wasn’t worried at all. With this new information and researching on our own we decided to make the trip. Once we arrived in Istanbul, we realized that safety was of no concern. We felt safer in Istanbul than we have in New York City. Like all traveling, be sure to educate yourself on the current events but know that all news sources like to make stories more dramatic than they are.

Istanbul Top 5
In our Istanbul Top 5 video, we visit the Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and the Bosporus river. You’ll see how fantastic the Holy Blue Mosque is and the history of the Hagia Sophia. It was difficult for us to limit the list to 5 places as Istanbul is filled with things to do. We recommend staying in the Old City as you can walk to most of these places from the hotels. Istanbul is a large city, so make sure you hotel is relatively close to the sites. If not, you’ll be stuck in a taxi for most of your trip. Be sure to have some Turkish Coffee when you’re there.

Beautiful place. Baklava is my all time favorite dessert, breakfast, lunch, or dinner!
Istanbul is a fascinating city and worth a visit at least. I find it quite unique compared to many other international cities across the globe.
