With so many romantic destinations to choose from, how do you choose from all of the best honeymoon destinations for you and your sweetheart? We traveled around the world in search of the top romantic destinations for 2016 and curated the ultimate list in bespoke romance. Next stop, newlyweds!
1. For the Social Butterflies: A Luxury Cruise
I know what you’re thinking, cruising is so passé, but there is a whole new wave of luxury yachting sailing the seas this summer. Choose a small cruise such as Silversea, Seadream, or Seabourn for an intimate, luxurious, and romantic cruise. With some yachts only holding 100 patrons, most of these cruises have a 1:1 ratio of patrons to staff, creating the ultimate experience in 5-star service. For summer honeymooners, choose a lavish Mediterranean cruise, filled with all-inclusive gourmet cuisine and top-shelf alcohol. For those honeymooning in the fall, try an exotic and adventurous cruise through the Galapagos Islands.
2. For the Nature Lovers: A New Zealand Road Trip
If your idea of romance is bungee jumping off of a bridge to nowhere or hiking up a glacier, then a road trip around the beautiful South Island of New Zealand is the ultimate place for your honeymoon! Rent a camper van or RV and road trip around the South Island. Spend your honeymoon hiking the snow-capped mountains of Mt. Cook, climbing the glaciers of Franz Josef, indulging in delicious New Zealand wines in Blenheim, kayaking through Abel Tasman National Park, and camping under the stars. If you’d like to treat yourself to a few nights in a luxury lodge, Matakauri Lodge in Queenstown, New Zealand is the ultimate in Kiwi romance. Nestled on Lake Wakatipu with sweeping views of nearby mountains, cozy up on your private porch as you pour another glass of local wine. For a full road trip itinerary, click here.
3. For the Foodies: Sicily
Pizzas, pastas, and wine, oh my! We all know that Italy is the best place for foodies to indulge in epicurean delights, but Sicily takes the cake (or pasta, in this case), for the hottest place for foodie lovers in 2016. Cuddle up on the cliffs of Taormina at the Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo, a staple in Sicilian superfluity. Enjoy a decadent lovers breakfast with its hedonistic buffet including an array of locally sourced meats and cheese while you sip your cappuccinos and take in sweeping views of Taormina’s picturesque coastline and the monolithic Mt. Etna. Rent a vintage Alfa Romeo for the day and tour the winding coastline of Taormina as you bask in the heat of the Mediterranean sun. Try to visit in the summer months when the nearby Teatro Greco or Greek Theatre conducts summer concerts using only the acoustics of ancient times. You also have access to its sister hotel, The Belmond Villa Sant’Andrea, located on a private beach with easy access to the idyllic Isola Bella.
4. For the Storybook Honeymoon: Amsterdam
Honeymooners, it’s time to relish in romance. Amsterdam is the perfect place for couples to revitalize, recharge, and reignite their romantic flame. Pure romance is revitalized through strolls through the castles and countryside of Noord-Holland, boat cruises down the romantic rivers, and bike rides through the tantalizing tulip fields. Amsterdam is proud of its sensuality, making it the perfect place for honeymooners to marinate in the immaculate romance that Amsterdam exudes.
5. For the History Buffs: Istanbul
Visiting Istanbul with your lover is like walking hand-in-hand through the history books. This enchanting and electrifying city is filled with culture, nightlife, and mesmerizing markets. One of the best destination is New Zealand for me, especially South Island and Quenstown.
Kemal, You’re right! the south island is fantastic and Queenstown is amazing!
Wonderful post!! These are such romantic honeymoon ideas. My dream was to go to South Africa for my honeymoon. Even South Africa is the perfect destination to take safari holidays.
Surrender,
South Africa was one of our favorite places to visit. There’s nothing like seeing animals in the wild up close. When we were there, we saw a leopard attack a bush buck. I didn’t catch the bush buck, but the whole event was amazing to watch.
These are all wonderful destinations! I recently visited Portugal with my fiance, and it was so beautiful! Nice work! Thanks so much for posting this!

Hey Buddy,
Nice post…!
Going for a vacation or honeymoon sounds exciting but at the same time it’s so confusing too. With the numerous options available around the world, it is so difficult to choose one according to our taste. I like your idea of having a vacation on cruise. Infact I am planning to hire a cruise in Fiji for my next holidays.
Thank you for sharing your post and especially those lovely pictures.
Nice Post guys…And pictures motivates a lot to travel.. I think someone is really talking about the Custard tarts in Pasties de belem bakery….yum yum…isn’t it….
Hope you enjoyed the post!
The rule for newspapers and blogs(?) is never explain, never apologise. OHP statement should be published by the Times, I don’t buy it so will not know if they do so. As an aside, many of the senior staff at the Times probably live in Kensington and Chelsea, the leafier parts, and so equally will have benefited from policies that reduce their council taxes.
Great post..! really loved it….thanks for sharing these destinations…The pictures are stunning too..I really liked New Zealand… hoping to visit there soon…
This is amazing. Did you know 44% of honeymooners go on a beach honeymoon? https://honeymoongoals.com/honeymoon-statistics-and-facts/.
